Updates, changes, and some random holiday

domesticat's picture

I’ve spent the past couple of days working on a major re-organization of how I archive photos on domesticat.net. As a result, I haven’t been in much of a mood to write. I’ve begun moving my changes live, so I thought I might explain.

One change that you’ll notice: the other-pictures page and trip pictures page are now combined, as they should have been all along. I’ve set up dropdown boxes so that you can pick out only the pictures you’re interested in seeing.I am currently changing over all photo links so that any image linked to on cat.net will be a popup image which closes itself when you move back to the main window. Given that there are over seven hundred (ouch!) pictures on domesticat, and that many of them are linked more than once, this is a gargantuan task which will take a few more days to complete. The links on the photo page are probably about half done, and they will be completed first before the links in old entries are corrected totally done now.

What you can’t see (because I don’t let you) is that I’ve completely changed how I archive pictures here. My directory structure had been out of control for about six months, and I’d made the decision to put off changing things until I knew how they needed to be changed. I figured it all out about a week ago, and got started a couple of days ago.

Kudos to Aaron, who was kind enough to offer advice, suggestions, and just plain humored me while I was working on this project. Poor guy, having to sit through all this…

I know that I should probably prattle on about how it’s New Year’s Eve, changes, life, goals, etc., but I’ll be honest—I think I’m gonna pass. If you really have to know, I have one wish for 2002: just that it be better than 2001 was. When 2001 was good, it was great, but when it was bad, it was really, really awful.

Here’s to life, to love, to friends, to health, and giving 2001 a swift kick in the ass as it heads out the door, because it wasn’t a very nice houseguest.

(P.S.—If the lists don’t work properly for you, or the links don’t generate the popups like they should, I’d like to commentsatdomesticat [dot] net (Subject: New photo management goodness) (hear from you).)
