Sugar, you feeling playful

For the love of all things holy, someone track down this man and shoot him. I mean, really, people. Think mangy dog here. Take him out to the back where the kids can’t see him and shoot him. Put him out of his misery. What kind of life is this guy leading anyway?

I’m referring to one of my least favorite online pests - the yahoo user cchodges. (Technically it’s an ‘adult’ profile, but I have yet to see evidence of anything but juvenilia.) Don’t remember him? This is the guy that gave us the underground classic entry, ‘Gimme “connical” form, baby!

Autumn winds always drift me into yarn shops

A roundup of links that have no real bearing whatsoever on anyone who isn't me, but which, when collected, bear a vague resemblance to a substantive post:

Usually what's fun & educational for the kids in Atlanta entertains the kid-minded adult, so this list of interesting free-ish kid stuff to do in Atlanta appeals mightily. There's plenty-o-nifty in that there town.

bringing on the weather

Sunday morning.

The clouds are pouring in from the south; a promise, nearly fulfilled, of the rain that is coming. Hurricane Dennis will soon be making landfall somewhere south of us. We are too far north to get real damage, even from a category 4, but we will take our dousing and be glad of it, thank-you-sir-may-I-have-another?

Hurricanes make for odd storms here. We are accustomed here to weather and wind moving from west to east, or northwest to southeast. Hurricanes billow up from the south, with hard winds blowing from directions normally unseen here: east to west, or southeast to northwest. Jeff says that when he was growing up, he was always told that a storm moving from east to west meant bad things.

He’d said it off and on for years before I realized that the only storms around here that provoke that weather pattern are newly-landed hurricanes.

If you'd like a Slytherin scarf...

I have enough yarn left over for one Sorceror’s Stone / Chamber of Secrets - style Slytherin scarf. (Broad silver and green stripes, if you don’t remember.) $20 will recoup my costs.

If you’re interested, email me privately: amy (at) the site you’re currently reading will reach me.

ovarian return to sender

Recently overheard by the dust bunnies in the computer room:

Jeff: “Hey, did you realize we’re going to be in different states on our anniversary?”
me: “What? Wait, when’s our anniversary?”

(the sound of me opening up my calendar application)
me: “Huh. Yeah. Week from Monday. Damn. We just suck.”

(momentary silence)
me: “Um … how many years have we been married?”

So, as evidenced by our lack of planning, we’ve both managed to forget our anniversary—again. He’ll be at home. I’ll be coming back from Atlanta.

Because you think I am dead

Me: coding fast, hard, and heavy for techops & security. Realizing that I now de facto answer to three dragon*con directors. Amused I got myself into this mess.Jeff: still in San Francisco. What was supposed to be a three-day trip morphed to a Sunday-Friday trip, culminating in today’s flight home … and today’s phone call telling me he must be back out there on Monday for next week, with about a 50-50 shot of having to be out there for a third week.
