I'm resting a couple of days in Seattle before meandering on to Minneapolis. Here's what I've been up to:

  • 11:04 AM PT: Continuing being a bum, and by 'being a bum' I mean 'uploading and tagging a lot of photos while thinking HEY LUNCH WOULD BE AWESOME'
  • 3:41 PM PT: This activity could be more accurately described as 'reading' if I perhaps actually had my eyes open a bit more frequently.
  • 7:01 PM PT: Ha! This is the best road sign EVAR. (Darned compfight distracting me again!) http://flic.kr/p/pqYJK (via @add1sun)
  • 7:49 PM PT: Missing @jmcclure. The world's a beautiful place, but I like it better when he explores it with me.
  • 10:43 PM PT: RT @tweetmeme Daria DVD news: Coming Soon info for Daria | TVShowsOnDVD.com http://tinyurl.com/nn28g6

I'm resting a couple of days in Seattle before meandering on to Minneapolis. Here's what I've been up to:

  • 10:45 PM PT: @jmcclure Miss you too, jeffie dear. Scritch Fang for me and tell them I'll be home Sunday and will be ready to administer Epic Pettings.
  • 12:34 AM PT: On plane to Minneapolis. The chatty six-year-old across the aisle may not survive the trip. We'll see.
  • 5:55 AM CT: Good morning, Minneapolis. Yes, my hair always sticks up like this in the morning, thanks for asking...
  • 6:02 AM CT: http://ping.fm/p/q6I41 - The scrum to get off the plane and get coffee after a red-eye. Seat 33? You're gonna wait a while.
  • 3:56 PM CT: After a long, luscious nap, I am finally awake in the Hugart household. *yawn* *stretch* Stupid red-eye flights.

Vacationing in Minneapolis!

  • 12:33 PM CT: For those of you who missed it, there was a dramatic reading of "Green Eggs and Ham" just now. Also, feeding cheese to toddlers.
  • 12:34 PM CT: End result of this prep work: we're going to the beach!
  • 4:23 PM CT: Finishing up at the beach; @jhugart entertains a very tired two girls while we wait for Holly.
  • 4:24 PM CT: Also, I have seen @crazybutable in shorts. Craziness!
  • 10:33 PM CT: Back from dinner. Mostly packed. Early-ish flight tomorrow; the airlines are starting to sing a siren song of home.
  • 11:35 PM CT: Around me, the house sleeps. I have been away for 13 days. Tomorrow I go home. I can't convey the comfort inherent in that statement.

Minneapolis, MN twitterlog for Sunday, July 12, 2009

I'm in Minneapolis, trying my hand at actually vacationing for a change. Here's what I've been up to:

Princesses and women

I think my frustration with the modern-day obsession with princesses has been noted, right? I fluff my feathers and squawk a bit every time I see grown women sporting clothing that proclaims them worthy not by dint of action or personality, but just by the sheer fact that some bint with a title chose to spawn, and they are the undeservingly-privileged results.

I can understand it in children -- fairy tales are fun when we're kids -- but entitlement stops being cute around age ten.  In adults, though?  Come on.  Princesses are born; women are made -- made through the kind of boring and dreadful Growth Experiences our shrinks keep encouraging us to have.

Thus this article on CNN ("Enough with the princess nonsense!") made me laugh.  A quote:

Video: do something unexpected

I got passed this link from Patrick's twitter feed.  This is how to rock out your wedding.  (Original link here)

Turn on your speakers and smile for a few minutes.

Don't shoot the messenger

Seriously, don't blame me if you watch these ads and double over laughing.  I suppose they are technically safe for work, but just remember this: Europe has a very different view of sex (and ads for sex-related products) than the US.  These ads would never, ever air here.

Doesn't mean I'm not grinning.

See? It looks planned!

I haven't exactly been sewing much since I got back from the Vacation + Furlough Extravaganza. I know this shocks no one, myself included, but it's taken me longer to bounce back from this trip than the previous ones.  My urge to lie on the couch and soak in the quietness that is home is difficult to ignore. Friends can vouch; they've seen little of me.

My sewing machine has missed me, too.  It's been waiting for me to come back and finish Asai's quilt.  I'm actually pretty close; there is a nonzero possibility that I could get very close, or finish entirely, with a diligent weekend's worth of work.
