Third time's a charm.

I am heartily sick of my site.

To the casual reader it will seem that I haven't been working on my site much this week. The lack of posts have had more to do with frustration and fraying tolerances than anything else. My attempt to port greymatter (the software that manages the journaling portion of this site) to the new machine was a clunky, dismal failure.

That was the first time. The second time was also a clunky, dismal failure.

The third time, I got smarter. Craftier. I managed to get the site to work. (It would have been easier if I'd just hosed everything and started over.) I got things working, a directory at a time. Then I started working on scripts. First, I got the guestbook working again. Right now I'm not totally sure that the search function works correctly, and I won't know until the DNS propagates.

There were many hours spent, beating on this site; most of those hours felt wasted. I've had many a wish to take my monitor and throw it out the window—quickly followed by twenty-five pounds worth of littermate cats who were "just trying to help." After spending hours trying to make my site just work properly, I have to shamefacedly admit that the last thing I wanted to do was to attempt to post to a crippled, half-functioning site.

Mostly because it felt like a failure on my part.

I've missed writing. I expect there to be a bit of a flurry of posts over the next few days. Lots of thoughts dancing around in my head. Mostly I'm just glad to have the site back up.
