Site updates, changes, errata

Edmund sleeps on my desk; therefore, all must be well.

I do have a couple of skins-related site updates to pass along. For now, I've given up the ghost, and decided to make the 'nautical' cat.net skin available, despite the fact that it only fully works in IE 5.5.Don't get me wrong—it's readable in Mozilla as well, and if you never plan to go past the front page, you'll never feel like you've missed a thing. But the blasted dropdown menus don't work properly, and until I find some code that makes it work in both IE and Mozilla, I'm a bit stuck. Blerg.

Instead of carping and complaining about it for forever and a day, I've decided to just make the skin available for the brave 5.5'ers, and move on with life. (Want to try it out? You know where to go!)

I have also updated the no-graphics skin. I say "update" when in fact I should say "fix." It was never intended to look the way it did when I released it. I was never happy with the way I left it—okay, okay, so I hated it—and as luck would have it, a fresh look at it tonight solved the layout problem within five minutes. It's now back to its intended two-column layout, and it seems to be perfectly behaved in both IE and Mozilla. I'm quite pleased.

I've updated the screenshots on the skins page to reflect this as well.

Another note—I received a very kind return note from Frantisek Stroud today regarding a skin design that I've been tinkering with. I've been pondering the idea of making a theme off of the idea of "beauty and grace," and while snooping about on the web, I found his pictures. They are not, however, royalty-free, and I wanted to make sure that I secured the legal right to use the picture I wanted before I even told anyone (but him) which picture I wanted to use.

I heard back from him this evening—since domesticat.net is clearly not a for-profit site, he's allowing me to use the image for free in exchange for crediting him on the site. Needless to say—I'm tickled and I'm quite pleased.

He has a paypal account. I'm thinking that even though he's allowing me free usage of this one picture, perhaps I should just consider it beerware. You know—send him enough fundage for a good pint or two at the local pub.

It's only fair, though. They're beautiful pictures. He's an excellent photographer.

As I said, Edmund sleeps on my desk; therefore, all must be well.
