Photography showing next week
Posted August 28th, 2008 : domesticatThe photos are going public. Gulp.
My still-unfinished Library 365 project will be shown at the library's fundraising event next Thursday. (The goal is to get to 365; I'm currently at 105, though next week will be so busy I suspect I'll add several more photos.)
There's something more than a little surreal about laying out your own photography for such a very public airing. I'm well aware that I'm not a pro-level photographer. I'm a decent amateur who knows her limitations, and I'm hoping someone will smack me if I ever show pretensions beyond my station.
I'm curious to see how people react to the shots.
technoquilting complete!
Posted August 17th, 2008 : domesticatThe twitter-followers know I've been working on this for a while, but I haven't mentioned it here because I didn't want to jinx myself. Regardless, my part in the process is done:

['Assembly no longer required (2)' on flickr]
I should have started this project years ago, but I was too chickenshit to do it. Years ago, on a visit to Heather and Andy, Heather offered to assemble a quilt top for me if I bought the fabric. I did, and she started working on it, but life eventually became too busy and she sent the pieces back to me, with all of the instructions and equipment I'd need to get started.
The box held enough fabric and squares to do at least two quilts.

Here's a chance for a little interactivity for all the bloggers out there. Below is a list of 100 things that I think every good omnivore should have tried at least once in their life. The list includes fine food, strange food, everyday food and even some pretty bad food - but a good omnivore should really try it all. Don't worry if you haven't, mind you; neither have I, though I'll be sure to work on it. Don't worry if you don't recognise everything in the hundred, either; Wikipedia has the answers.

Posted August 9th, 2008 : domesticatComing home from my mother's wedding, with thoughts of Washington and Arkansas and Alabama mixing reluctantly in my head like oil and water, the thought hit me.
Last Q standing.

The photos from Seattle are up, and as is typical, the one that is most memorable to me isn't even from Seattle. It's from Bellingham, from a chance moment at a street carnival that I almost didn't even photograph because I didn't think I'd get anything useful.
(Adam, which park was this? Larrabee?)
Details soon. This weekend, I think. For now, though, the photoset is tagged, bagged, and available on flickr.
I Assure You We're Open
Posted August 5th, 2008 : domesticatIt looks like we're back. Fingers firmly crossed.

The short version?
domesticat.net's been parked on omnipotent.net, a machine under Gareth's control, for years. Jeff's been wanting his own space to play, and we liked the idea of parking our sites on the same box. We were in the process of slowly moving domesticat over when a couple of database errors during our vacation caused me to move up the timeframe.
When we got back from [ Washington / Arkansas / Mississippi / if it's Tuesday we're where, exactly? ] I decided to get started on the process. We migrated my mail to gmail ... years and years of inane little emails, all now offered up on the altar of the Goog ... and tarballed all the files on the server.
