Co-existence

I make constant snark about Tenzing, but I couldn't say "free to good home" and mean it. We are companionable, he and I. We spend a great deal of time annoying each other, as these photos attest:

Show your nerd! (NPR's science fiction / fantasy book poll)

Over on Facebook, Jenny posted NPR's recent results of their Top 100 science fiction / fantasy book poll. (Printable booklist is here.) I'm including links to help combat the blowback from the "BBC thinks you've only read X of these books!" memes that have come around, amidst much shouting...

So close, so close, so close.

Right now, "Eat This Quilt" is, for lack of a less appropriate phrase, so close to being done that I can almost taste it. Hallie invited me over last night to do some crafting, and I brought it with me to work on weaving in loose threads.

We draped the quilt over the ottoman and couch while I was taking a water break, and it seemed a good time to snap a photo:

We are back home from another round of vet visits. Last night, I wasn't sure if I needed to take Tenzing to the vet again, but this morning, after a rough night for everyone concerned, I was sure. He's normally grateful when I (finally!) go to bed each night, and sleeps contentedly on my knees, but last night was different. Through the night last night, he woke me every 1.5 - 2 hours, needing to be held and comforted.

This wasn't Tenzing.

Blog entries referencing this quilt:

Lily is a short-timer. I started learning a new sewing skill (English paper piecing) without a clear project in mind, and decided I'd figure it out as I went along. I took a bag of little paper hexagons with me to my vacation in Minnesota, figuring I'd do a few flowers.

Commit, damn you, COMMIT ALREADY.

I've been putting it off because...

  1. I didn't know how to do it
  2. I needed skills I didn't have
  3. The prospect of trying this terrified me
  4. That's a lot of damned appliqué

But here I am. It's been over a year since I've touched this project ... it's time to get started. I've had a design in mind for some time, but it took a while to articulate it into even a simplified design -- each time I drew it, it got simpler and simpler and simpler.

Thanks for the prayers; can you help take the cats to the vet's?

I have an email to quote first. The sender is real. I'm leaving the email address in.
