I survived the TMBG concert at Exit/In last night, and let me tell you, it was an experience.

But first…

Name: devil. Location: details.

I lay on the bed this afternoon, drowsy with sunshine and tea and salacious novel, and trawled fingers through Edmund’s orange fur. As my hand crept over and around, to reach the white fur on his belly, the purring changed from lazy to nearly explosive, as if to say, oh yes, pet me right there…

why I married him

Sarcastically muttered near the peanut butter: “Holy shit! Thanksgiving is this week? Why the hell didn’t anyone tell me? When did this start getting scheduled in late November?”

While I wait for today’s Godot — Adobe CS3 — to attempt (yet again) to reinstall Adobe Acrobat CS3 (of which install, I might add, there are several known problems, especially regarding upgrading) … well, guess what, kids, you’re stuck with me for a little while.

If you want to know how to keep a webmaster from getting anything done, deny her access to her email and her web browser. After a few tumultuous minutes of foaming at the mouth, she will subside into quiet, trailing whimpers while she waits for the pain to stop.

The legend of Turkeymas

Have you ever wondered where your holiday traditions come from? I think we should make sure our children know the REAL reason for our holidays…

In a village not so long ago (maybe the 1960s) and not very far away (somewhere around Cleveland) there was a brave adventurer who decided to buck the centuries of oppression by cruel dinosaur overlords. Lacking true tools with which to fight, he engendered a cunning way to turn the dinosaurs into fossils using only eggnog and holly branches, thus leaving the Great Pumpkin Holiday in peace and theoretically guaranteeing the sheeplike populace a full month of stress-free retail shopping between the Festival of Halloween and Jewish Guy’s Birthday.

Turkeymas 2007

Through rain and hellish traffic, the 4-hour drive to Brian and Suzan’s took just over 5.5 hours. We were grateful to have arrived there safe and sound, regardless of the hour. I love Thanksgivings with them, because it’s a Thanksgiving of introversion; you don’t have to sneak off to take time for yourself or make phone calls or just be alone. It’s understood and encouraged, and I took advantage of it.

Paint it black

Loss came through tweets and emails, a drip of information at a time. First a note from a tech staffer saying that someone had died, with a pointer to more information, including the name.

I saw it at work, and I wondered who it would be, whose name had to take on a different status. Death is so final it seems that we should all be able to feel it when it happens, to know that something is missing that wasn’t missing ten minutes ago. But it’s not like that. We have to be told, and for me it was via email.
