4.5 years later...

A dozing moment of insight brought some of my photos back to me.

I have been on a photo hunt for months now. The goal: find as many of my photo originals as possible, and lodge them on flickr. I was unhappy with storing them on domesticat, and decided it was well past time to archive them in one place.

I had considered the originals of my Sedona photos lost. Not any more:

Sunset - 3 of 5

As a result, I saw this photo for the first time in almost five years. I never posted it before, and I do not know why. Sunset sailboat:

The Grand Canyon and Sedona photos both need levels/curves correction, but for the time being I'm reveling in my photos having returned to me.

Quickest photo shoot ever

This entry is partly to test a code fix and partly to grin at the results of this morning's photography.

#37 - Sequined awesomeness

BJ is a favorite and consistent photo subject of mine. I got an excellent headshot of her for a print piece I worked on a couple of months ago, but I had to cut her photo out of the finished piece due to space constraints. It made me sad, because her photo was excellent; it was just trumped by two better photos.

This morning, she saw my camera bag and said, "Think you'll need another shot of me sometime soon?" I told her that I might, but that it would be for a very different project.

Photos from Over the Rhine show

DSC_0408

Geof lured me into driving down to the most excellent Workplay Theatre in Birmingham to see Over the Rhine perform last night. As we explained to the fans at the next table who had driven in from Florida to see the show: "He's a fan of the band. She's a fan of the venue." (Full photoset is here.)

Geof taped the show, so I'm guessing he'll post a link here when the download's available? It's like going to the show, without the annoying "get back after one a.m. when you have to be at work at 7:30" factor.

It's worth noting that we looked like reporters with all the gear we hauled in: taping equipment and two semipro cameras. (I'm still wondering how I ever managed to photograph concerts without a tripod / monopod.)

February 2008 photo roundup

It's been a week of photography around here, for those of you who aren't following the stream-of-consciousness log over at solecist.net. When I came to work yesterday morning, Melissa popped her head in the door and said, "Did you see those clouds on the way in?" I nodded; the dark, billowing shapes had caught my eye, too.

But Melissa had keys in her hand, and a plan in mind. "Come on. Let's go to the roof. Bring your camera."

I came back with only three usable photos, but they were three photos I hadn't expected to get. For dark and moody, here's a shot of the First Baptist Church's bell tower, one of the most recognizable parts of the Huntsville skyline:

I also got two shots of the Huntsville skyline that, while not terribly inspired, are also very different from any other downtown photos currently on flickr:

From Jeff's grandmother's surprise 80th birthday party this weekend, I present definitive photographic proof that Jeff was not hatched. The 'hatched' theory holds no water when you see how much the entire family resembles each other. Link goes to photoset, or click the photo below:

2007-11 - TMBG, Exit/In

I survived the TMBG concert at Exit/In last night, and let me tell you, it was an experience.

But first...
