I managed to be in DC for the snowstorm ... yay? This, of course, would be the day I needed to tromp all over creation to meet the librarians...

After having met the systems librarians, I crash for a few hours at Katie and David's house, then head south into Washington DC proper to help set up Drupalcon. Can we say slight case of terror? I think so.

Final day of Drupalcon. Documentation sprint, last lunch at Old Dominion with new friends, followed by a sprint north to Silver Spring for barbecue with David, Katie, @vulcansmuse, and the Frankenberrys.

Sunday: with Drupalcon having ended, we check out of the hotel, struggle to find food, and stagger home.

uptempo music + headphones = progress (we hope)

Dearest nerdiverse, through problems not of my own making* I am wearing headphones for about eight hours straight every day, and will likely be doing so every workday for the rest of this month.  As a result, I have a serious, dire, and immediate need to rock out.

See http://www.last.fm/user/domesticat for everything I've listened to since 2004, or better yet see this subpage for what I've listened to in the past year.

Life arcs, social gravity

I'm leaving this friends-locked on domesticat because anything else will cause it to syndicate openly, especially to Facebook, where a lot of people who knew me in high school have found me.  This is both good and bad.  It has served to answer the question "What have you done since high school?" with "Oh.  THAT's what you've done since high school."

It's provided unexpected closure. I can look back now and recognize that changing my actions would have done little, if anything, to change the outcome.

Sloganize the Huntsvegas metropolis!

I shared this with a few people last night but it's worth re-linking here.  The Huntsville Times is running a tongue-in-cheek contest to provide new slogans for our sleepy, geeky city. The current suggestions are here.

Coming soon: Tales From the Furlough

I'll spare you all the gory details and give you the roundup; after round one of layoffs at the library, all full-time employees will be taking two one-week furloughs, one in second quarter 2009 and the other in Q3 2009. I'm looking at using my Q2 furlough to head west to do some Drupal work with some friends. My Q3 furlough is likely to take me to Seattle. Plans are still nebulous on the latter one, though.

Nebulous yet nefarious, I might add.

This is why.

I got a bit of a surprise tonight when I checked my camera's card. I knew someone had picked up my camera during Lexie's shower, the shower in which I showed 'star stories' for the first time, but I never checked to see what photos were on it. Photos after the jump.

Belief

I sent this through my work account just now. It makes me angry that such things even have to be said at all.

Belief, part 2

What follows is the transcript of a discussion on my facebook wall regarding the entry 'Belief,' which was posted this morning.  I am posting the transcript from Facebook for archival purposes, and for those reading this site who do not use Facebook. The next post (part 3) will be my response, and would make little sense without this transcript.

Belief, part 3

Everyone else has had their say today, and I wanted to wait some number of hours to let my opinions fall into place before providing my response. A full, measured, and honest response here will include nothing new to longtime readers of domesticat.net, but which may come as a surprise to quite a few of the people who knew me only as a child or a teenager, and have only recently found me again on Facebook.
